The last meal at Alexander's Steakhouse in Normal will be served today. The restaurant that has anchored the community for more than four decades announced that May 31 is its final day of operations.

Business leaders made the closure announcement through an online post this week. The restaurant will remain open today if staffing levels allow.

"Serving this community for more than four decades has been one of our greatest honors. We're incredibly proud of the memories made, the celebrations shared, and the relationships built. To our guests and our dedicated team members — thank you for being the heart of Alexander's Steakhouse Normal," the post read.

The Normal location is the second Alexander's Steakhouse in Central Illinois to close in recent years.

Key details about the closure

  • Final day: May 31, 2026 (today), weather and staffing permitting
  • Years in operation: More than 40 years in Normal
  • Champaign location: Closed in 2022
  • Peoria location: Remains open

The Champaign Alexander's Steakhouse shuttered its doors in 2022, marking the beginning of a contraction for the regional chain in Central Illinois.

The Peoria location is expected to stay open, according to 25 News Now.

Alexander's Steakhouse has long been a staple for Normal residents celebrating milestones, hosting family dinners, and marking special occasions. The closure ends an era for a restaurant that many in the Bloomington-Normal community consider a local institution.

Customers looking to visit for the last time should confirm hours ahead of time, since the final day depends on whether the restaurant can field enough staff.
