Body Found in Burned Decatur Home Sparks Multi-Agency Investigation

One person was found dead after a house fire at 468 S. Boyd Street in Decatur Saturday morning. Four agencies are investigating the cause of the blaze and the cause of death.

One person was found dead inside a burned home on South Boyd Street in Decatur Saturday morning, and investigators from four agencies are now trying to determine what caused the fire and how the victim died.

The Decatur Fire Department was dispatched to 468 S. Boyd Street at 7:40 a.m. Saturday. Crews arrived to find the house engulfed in flames with heavy smoke pouring from the structure.

Firefighters worked to bring the blaze under control and then searched the interior for anyone trapped inside. They found one person who was pronounced deceased at the scene.

"A cause of death for the person is still being determined, and more information will be released later," Deputy Chief Scott Rosenbery told WAND News.

The identity of the victim has not been released.

The investigation is being led by multiple agencies. The Decatur Fire Department, the Decatur Police Department Criminal Investigation Division, the Office of the State Fire Marshal, and Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services are all examining the scene to determine the cause and origin of the fire.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about the fire to come forward.
