Carbondale: 32-Year-Old Man Dies After Early Morning Shooting on West Jackson Street
Marshaun Williams, 32, died after being shot early Friday morning on West Jackson Street in Carbondale. His acquaintance, Brent Battles, 51, was also shot and is in police custody. Police say the incident stemmed from a personal dispute.

Marshaun Williams, 32, of Carbondale, died from gunshot wounds early Friday morning after a shooting that also left his acquaintance in custody, according to the Carbondale Police Department.
Officers responded to the 200 block of West Jackson Street at approximately 12:53 a.m. on June 19 after receiving a report of a person shot, according to police.
What happened at the scene
According to the Carbondale Police Department, officers located Williams in a parking lot with life-threatening injuries. First responders transported him to the hospital.
Despite life-saving efforts by officers and medical crews, Williams died from his injuries, the department said.
Around 1:00 a.m., a second gunshot victim was dropped off at the hospital by an acquaintance, according to police reports.
That second victim, identified as Brent Battles, 51, of Radcliff, Kentucky, remains in stable condition, according to the Carbondale Police Department. Battles formerly lived in Carbondale, police said.
"The second gunshot victim was treated and is in stable condition," the police release read.
A personal dispute, not a public threat
Police said both men were acquaintances involved in an ongoing personal dispute, according to the Carbondale Police Department.
Battles is currently in police custody. The Jackson County State's Attorney's Office is reviewing potential charges, according to police.
Carbondale Police stated there is no known danger to the public related to this incident.

The police department extended its condolences to Williams' family following the incident.
A pattern on Carbondale streets
This shooting is the latest in a series of violent incidents in Carbondale this year. Police reported multiple shootings in the city in May, including two separate incidents in which multiple people were hurt and suspects arrested.
The June 19 shooting leaves the community grappling with another loss.
