Summer Jobs Come to Carbondale High School

Nearly 100 students attended a job fair at Carbondale Community High School on Tuesday. The event brought more than 30 local businesses to the school to hire teens for summer positions.

Maria Graceli is a freshman at Carbondale Community High School. She is looking for her first job. Graceli expects to find a part-time job or a summer job. She is 14 years old.

"I am expecting to find a part-time job or just a summer job. Some of them are looking for part-time, which is definitely doable," said Graceli.

Dallas Terry is the Career and Technical Education Director at Carbondale Community High School. He said there is a job possible for every student. Terry added that students have spent weeks preparing for the event.

"We spent about 5 weeks just getting these kids ready. We prepped their resumes. We taught them how to have a conversation with an adult. We explained what the interview process looks like. We showed them how to approach employers," said Terry.

Graceli said even if she does not walk away with a job offer, she is still getting crucial experience. She said the experience will help her through her future career.

"It can help me a lot with marketing and just having good contacts with people," said Graceli.

Some students walked away with job offers from the event.
