Decatur Mayor Julie Moore Wolfe Announces 2027 Reelection Bid, Cites $137 Million in Infrastructure Gains
Decatur Mayor Julie Moore Wolfe announced she will seek reelection in 2027, citing more than $137 million in infrastructure funding and the upcoming expansion of Fuyao Glass as highlights of her tenure.
Decatur Mayor Julie Moore Wolfe announced Thursday that she will seek reelection in 2027. The announcement comes as the city navigates a major expansion at its largest employer and prepares to open a key transportation project this summer.
Moore Wolfe has served on the Decatur City Council since 2009 and was appointed mayor in 2015. She has been elected to the mayoral office three times.
The record she is running on
Moore Wolfe pointed to infrastructure funding as a centerpiece of her tenure. According to WAND-TV, she highlighted a coalition approach she calls Team Decatur, bringing together business, labor, the city, and the county.
"Together we work through challenges and build our own success story. We've brought home over $137 million for roads, bridges, and transportation initiatives in the last ten years. That's business, labor, the city and county working together as Team Decatur," Moore Wolfe said.
The mayor also referenced recent economic developments in the city. Fuyao Glass, Decatur's largest private employer, recently announced it will double the size of its plant and hire 200 additional workers.
The Brush College Road overpass is scheduled to open later this summer, according to Moore Wolfe.
Priorities for the next term
Moore Wolfe outlined three priorities she said she would pursue if reelected:
- Reducing property tax burdens on residents
- Growing the local workforce
- Increasing middle-income housing opportunities to attract new residents
She also pointed to the city's expanded transit program. Moore Wolfe said the new Decatur Moves vans are helping residents get to work, church, doctor appointments, and grocery stores.
"We are removing barriers to make lives better," she said.
What comes next
The next mayoral election in Decatur will be held in 2027. It remains to be seen who will challenge Moore Wolfe, as no opponents have been announced.
Moore Wolfe's tenure has coincided with significant economic shifts in Decatur, including the arrival and expansion of Fuyao Glass and ongoing efforts to diversify the city's housing stock and workforce.
