DeKalb County: Huntley Man Hospitalized After Falling Asleep, Crashing Truck Into Home
A Huntley man was hospitalized after allegedly falling asleep and crashing his truck into a DeKalb County home. No occupants inside the house were injured.
A Huntley man was hospitalized early Wednesday morning after allegedly falling asleep at the wheel and driving his truck into a home in unincorporated DeKalb County.
DeKalb County emergency personnel were called to the 12000 block of Barcroft Circle near Hampshire at 12:38 a.m. Wednesday after reports of a vehicle striking a house, according to authorities.
The Crash
Officers arriving at the scene found a 2023 white Chevy Silverado had struck the corner of the home.
Troy A. Oates, 53, of Huntley, was identified as the driver, authorities said.
Oates is said to have fallen asleep behind the wheel and driven head-on into the residence, according to officials.
Injuries and Response
Emergency personnel from the Hampshire Fire Protection District reported heavy damage at the scene. Oates sustained a facial injury during the crash.
Oates was transported with a head injury to Advocate Sherman Hospital by the Hampshire Fire Protection District, officials said.
No occupants inside the home were injured in the crash, authorities confirmed.
Charges Filed
Oates was later cited for three violations, authorities said:
- Failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident
- Improper lane usage
- No valid insurance
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
