East Moline: Rock Island Man Charged With Murder After 27-Year-Old Shot Dead at Apartment Complex

A Life Cut Short in East Moline

Freddie Bass was found with multiple gunshot wounds in his East Moline apartment early Tuesday morning. He died at the hospital. Police say a 21-year-old Rock Island man is now in custody on a first-degree murder charge.

The shooting happened around 6:30 a.m. on June 16, 2026 at the Crowne Forest Apartment Complex on 49th Avenue Court. Officers from the East Moline Police Department responded to the scene and found Bass with multiple gunshot wounds inside an apartment, according to a police press release.

Bass was taken to a local hospital where he ultimately died from his injuries.

Rock Island County Coroner Brian Gustafson said the cause of death was a gunshot wound, according to KWQC.

Suspect Caught After Brief Chase

Police identified the suspect as Anthony L. Tem, 21, of Rock Island. Several local agencies joined the search for Tem after the shooting.

Around 8:30 a.m., the Rock Island Police Department located Tem near 5th Street and 39th Avenue in Rock Island. Tem fled in a vehicle and then on foot, running into the Maple Ridge Apartment Complex on 5th Street, according to KWQC.

Tem surrendered to authorities at approximately 9:10 a.m. and was taken into custody. He is being held at the Rock Island County Jail on a first-degree murder charge. Formal charges are pending with the Rock Island County State's Attorney's Office, according to the Yahoo News report by Mikaela Schlueter.

Who Was Freddie Bass?

The victim's listed residence differs between sources. Yahoo News identified Bass as a 27-year-old from Davenport. KWQC identified him as 27 years old from Moline. The Rock Island County Coroner confirmed his name and age.
