One Woman Dead After Car Strikes Pedestrians Near Elm And Ash

A woman died and another was seriously injured after a car struck two pedestrians while they were walking on a sidewalk near the intersection of Ash Street and Elm Street in Rockford on Sunday afternoon.

Deputies responded to the scene around 1:53 p.m. on a report that two pedestrians had been struck by a vehicle. The Wright County Sheriff's Office confirmed the crash involved a juvenile girl who was driving with her mother.

The juvenile girl reportedly struck the two women as they walked along the sidewalk. One woman was pinned under the vehicle when the crash occurred. Deputies and fire officials freed her from under the car. She was pronounced dead at the scene according to law enforcement.

The other woman sustained significant injuries to her legs. She was transported to North Memorial Hospital for treatment. Law enforcement officials did not identify the victim.

The driver and passenger of the vehicle were uninjured in the crash. The case remains under active investigation by the sheriff's office.

Pedestrian Safety Concerns In The Area

The incident occurred in a residential neighborhood in Rockford. A van ended up stopped in a yard nearby according to aerial footage from SkyFOX helicopter. Multiple law enforcement vehicles were present at the scene as officers processed the area and collected evidence.

Wright County officials are working with other local agencies to piece together how the crash happened. The sheriff's office has not yet released additional details about what led up to the incident.
