A 42-year-old man is in critical condition after a motorcycle collided with a turning Jeep at a Davenport intersection Saturday afternoon. Police say the rider crossed the centerline while trying to pass the vehicle.

A 42-year-old man is fighting for his life after a motorcycle crash in Davenport left him with life-threatening injuries, according to the Davenport Police Department.

The crash happened Saturday afternoon near the intersection of North Division Street and West Lombard Street. Emergency crews arrived on the scene at approximately 4:29 p.m.

How the Crash Unfolded

According to a police media release, a Jeep was traveling southbound on Division Street when the driver attempted to make a left turn onto Lombard Street. A motorcycle traveling southbound in the same direction tried to pass the Jeep during the maneuver.

The motorcycle crossed the centerline into oncoming traffic and collided with the turning Jeep, police said.

"A preliminary investigation found that a Jeep was driving southbound on Division Street and trying to make a left turn onto Lombard Street when a southbound motorcycle tried to pass the Jeep," police said in the release.

Victim Taken to Hospital

The motorcyclist sustained serious, life-threatening injuries and was transported by Medic EMS to a local hospital for treatment. No other injuries were reported in the crash.

The identity of the motorcyclist has not been released. The crash remains under investigation by Davenport police.

A Dangerous Intersection

North Division Street is a major thoroughfare in Davenport. The intersection with Lombard Street sits in a busy commercial corridor. Police did not release additional details about road conditions, weather, or vehicle speeds at the time of the crash.
