Fatal shooting on the East Side

A 20-year-old man died Sunday evening after being shot in the parking lot of a Circle K on Rockford's East Side, according to reports from WTVO and WIFR.

The shooting occurred at the Circle K near East State Street and Jefferson Street. The Rockford Police Department posted on X around 6 p.m. Sunday, reporting that the victim sustained a life-threatening gunshot wound and was transported to a hospital.

The victim later died at the hospital, according to WTVO reporter Kelsy Woodall.

Investigation continues

Police have not released the victim's name. No suspect has been identified, and no arrests have been announced.

Rockford Police are investigating the shooting. Authorities have not said whether the incident is connected to any other recent violence in the area.

A pattern of East Side violence

The shooting adds to a string of violent incidents in Rockford. In recent weeks, the city has seen a fatal crash on Harrison Avenue that killed 22-year-old Drevin Tavernie, and a School Street shooting that led to the arrest of 19-year-old Evan Moreno on charges including aggravated discharge of a firearm, according to local reporting.

Winnebago County data from earlier this year showed five domestic violence deaths in the county in 2025, even as statewide numbers fell 26 percent, according to a previous report in Illinois State News.
