Johnson City man killed in Carbondale motorcycle crash

Wayne Aydt, 59, died after his motorcycle was struck by a vehicle on West Main Street in Carbondale on Friday evening. Illinois State Police are investigating the crash.

CARBONDALE, Ill. (Sept. 14) — A Johnson City man was killed in a motorcycle crash on Friday night in Carbondale, police said.

Wayne Aydt, 59, was riding his motorcycle in the 2200 block of West Main Street when it was struck by a vehicle at about 8:30 p.m., according to the City of Carbondale Police Department.

Aydt was transported to the hospital, where he later died. The circumstances of the crash are still under investigation.

The Illinois State Police are handling the traffic crash reconstruction. Authorities have not released the identity of the driver or the vehicle involved, and no arrests have been announced as of this report.

West Main Street is a busy corridor in the western part of Carbondale, near Southern Illinois University Carbondale and the SIU Edward H. Dutton Hospital.

This is the second fatal crash in Carbondale in the past week. On Tuesday, Sept. 8, a 68-year-old pedestrian, Nancy Morrison-Burton, was killed after being struck by a vehicle at South University Avenue and West Cherry Street.

The Carbondale Police Department asked residents with any information about the Friday crash to contact the department.
