Bloomington-Normal area wide receiver Bennett Konkey is taking an official visit to Illinois football during the weekend of June 12. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound wide receiver from Geneva High School will make this visit as part of his recruiting process for the 2027 class.

Konkey is currently rated as a three-star recruit and ranked as the No. 737 player in the class of 2027 according to 247Sports. He is also ranked as the No. 87 wide receiver in the country and the No. 26 player coming out of Illinois.

The Geneva High School star has scholarship offers from some big-time programs including Duke, Wisconsin, and Iowa State. Illinois is currently his only official visit that is set up, and he has selected the Illini as his top choice.

Konkey combines size and speed in his game, which makes him a dangerous player for the position. He is also a track athlete which contributes to his ability to burn down the field. His versatility allows him to play out wide or in the slot.

Bret Bielema, Illinois football coach, is building a strong recruiting class with in-state talent. The Illini currently have four players pledged for 2027, and Konkey could become the fifth in-state commit.

Illinois football sits at No. 57 in the national recruiting rankings, which is a significant improvement from the sub-No. 80 ranking from weeks ago. The program is focused on securing top talent at crucial positions.

The 2027 class will see departures including Alex Perry, Ty Robinson, and Collin Dixon, who will all graduate. This creates opportunities for Konkey to see snaps and potentially start as a freshman.
