Carbondale Police arrested a 14-year-old boy after responding to a shots fired call in the city.

Officers responded to the scene at 6:20 p.m. on May 8 in the 500 block of South Ash Street. Police said witnesses told them the suspect was a young black male who was seen running eastbound in an alley in that location.

Police identified the suspect as a 14-year-old male from Carbondale. Officers later found the suspect on May 9 and arrested him.

No injuries were reported with the shots fired call. The boy was cited with offenses of Reckless Discharge of a Firearm and Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.

He was taken to the Jackson County Jail while awaiting transport to a juvenile detention facility. Police are not releasing the juvenile suspect's identity in accordance with the Illinois Juvenile Justice Act.
