A Cold Case Gets a Suspect

A 32-year-old Chicago man has been charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery in connection with a shooting that left another man seriously injured nearly two years ago in the Washington Heights neighborhood.

Chicago police arrested Johnny Robinson on Friday and linked him to the July 29, 2024 incident on the 10100 block of South Wallace Street, according to FOX 32 Chicago.

The July 2024 Shooting

Police said Robinson was identified as the suspect who shot and seriously injured a 32-year-old man on South Wallace Street more than 22 months ago. The victim's identity has not been publicly released.

The shooting occurred in Washington Heights, a neighborhood on Chicago's far South Side that has seen repeated gun violence in recent years.

Arrest and Court Date

Detectives arrested Robinson on Friday, ending a nearly two-year investigation into the shooting, according to the report. Robinson is scheduled to appear in court on Sunday.

The charges against Robinson include attempted murder and aggravated battery. Those are felony charges under Illinois law.

A Pattern of South Side Violence

The arrest comes as Chicago police continue to work multiple shooting cases across the South Side. On the same day, police reported a separate shooting in West Englewood that left a 52-year-old man in critical condition, with a suspect also arrested, according to FOX 32 Chicago.

Police also announced a wanted suspect in connection with a string of purse robberies on Chicago's South Side, according to the same outlet.

What Comes Next

Robinson's court appearance will determine bail and set the timeline for his trial. If convicted of attempted murder, he faces a potential prison sentence of 4 to 25 years under Illinois sentencing guidelines.

The victim in the 2024 Wallace Street shooting was not named by police.
