Gas Prices Top $4 A Gallon In Iowa Quad Cities As Costs Continue To Climb
Gas prices in the Iowa Quad Cities have topped $4 a gallon for the first time in weeks. Illinois side residents are paying even more at $4.65 per gallon.
Iowa Quad Citians are paying more at the gas pump as regular grade gasoline prices have reached or exceeded $4 a gallon. The price surge represents a 42-cent increase from a week ago according to data from AAA.
The average price in Iowa sits at $4.14 a gallon. This is also rising 42 cents since last week. The price of regular gas on the Iowa side of the river has mostly stayed under $4 a gallon. That is now beginning to change.
Iowa Quad Citians woke up to gas prices above $4 this week. The average price in the state of Illinois sits at $4.93 a gallon. This is rising 48 cents since last week. The state of Illinois sits 45 cents higher for regular gas than the national average of $4.48.
"It is hard on me right now because I do not get much money coming in. And I just cannot hardly go nowhere," said Gilbert Cole. "By the time I pay for my medicine and food and stuff, I am broke."
Marlin Krueger said when he was a teenager you could get gas for 28 cents a gallon. He knows he will never see that again. He said they have got to do something to help a lot of people. There are a lot of people suffering.
Gas prices on both sides of the river are increasing. Data from AAA says gas is still 58 cents cheaper on the Iowa side than the Illinois side.
On the Illinois side of the river. Regular-grade gasoline for Illinois Quad Citians sits at $4.65. This is a 41-cent increase from a week ago.
Gina Graff said it is ridiculous to come over on her lunch hour. She lives and works in Illinois. She comes over on her lunch to Iowa. She said just that little bit makes a difference. Believe it or not.
Krueger said he does not care if you are well to do. Or if you are poor. He said it is crazy to be paying so much for gas in the country. His question is why they are exporting so much. Gas is still the price it is.
He said they have to distribute some of the wealth in the country and help their people out.
