Hoffer Plastics, a South Elgin custom injection molder, has created and filled a new director of manufacturing role with Dan Clark, a veteran with more than 30 years of experience.
A New Executive Role at a South Elgin Injection Molder
Hoffer Plastics, a custom injection molder based in South Elgin, has created a new executive position and filled it with a veteran manufacturing leader.
The company announced Monday that Dan Clark will serve as its new director of manufacturing. The role did not exist before. Hoffer established it to bring dedicated leadership to production operations.
Clark brings more than 30 years of experience in scientific injection molding, enterprise manufacturing strategy, and continuous improvement. He joins Hoffer from an Illinois-based contract manufacturing firm where he served as manufacturing and technology manager.
Immediate Impact on the Floor
Hoffer said Clark has already begun delivering measurable results. The company reported that Clark cut cycle time for a critical tool by 30 percent in his first days on the job.
"[Clark] is already making an impact by enhancing processes, solving complex production challenges and championing a culture rooted in learning and continuous improvement," Jeff Klabunde, VP of Operations at Hoffer Plastics, said. "These kinds of efficiency optimizations are exactly why Dan is the perfect fit for this role."
Clark's responsibilities include driving improvements in production efficiency, process development, tool launch processes, and overall equipment effectiveness.
A Focus on Training and Apprenticeships
Clark holds certifications as a Master Molder and through RJG in Decoupled Molding, Scientific Molding, and process control. His background also includes work as a national sales manager, giving him insight into how production decisions affect customers and end users.
The company highlighted Clark's commitment to workforce development. At his previous employer, he developed and launched a comprehensive apprenticeship program. Hoffer said he is now working to expand existing apprenticeships and implement scalable training programs at its South Elgin facility.
Why It Matters for South Elgin
Hoffer Plastics is one of the manufacturing employers in the South Elgin industrial corridor. Creating a new executive role signals investment in operations and growth. The company's focus on efficiency and workforce training aligns with broader efforts across Kane County to retain skilled manufacturing jobs.
Clark's prior experience launching apprenticeship programs could provide a model for other local manufacturers seeking to build their talent pipeline from within the community.
