Two people were injured and multiple cars were damaged by gunfire in a shootout in Aurora, Illinois, Friday morning.

Police said they responded to reports of gunfire in the 2000 block of W. Downer Place just after 9:30 a.m. Officers were told people in at least two cars had been shooting at each other in a parking lot.

A 25-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound near Downer Place and Edgelawn Drive. He was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries and later left on his own, police said.

A second man with a gunshot wound took himself to another local hospital for treatment and was released, police said.

Multiple cars were struck by gunfire and damaged during the incident, according to authorities.

Nearby schools and daycares were temporarily put on hold-in-place status during the initial investigation, but that was lifted.

Police believe the shootout was targeted and there is no threat to the broader community, according to the Aurora Police Department.
