Carbondale Police responded to the 700 block of South Lewis Lane at approximately 3:46 a.m. on May 13 for a report of shots fired.

When officers arrived, they found one victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was treated at the scene. A second victim was taken to the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

Police said they found two guns from the scene and reported property damage. Investigators stated the shooting happened between people who knew each other.

Charges Filed Against Three Defendants

The investigation led the department’s Special Response Team, assisted by members of the Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System, to execute a search warrant in the 400 block of South Lake Heights.

A 15-year-old from Harrisburg was charged with aggravated battery with a firearm and aggravated discharge of a firearm. Because of the Illinois Juvenile Justice Act, the juvenile’s identity was not released.
