Two men were shot in separate incidents in Decatur, Illinois, over a four-day period, according to the Decatur Police Department. Both victims are expected to recover. Detectives are pursuing leads in both cases.

Thursday shooting: Man shot three times while driving

The first shooting occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Thursday in the area of West Sunset Avenue and Oakland Avenue, according to a report from WCIA.

A 35-year-old man was shot three times while driving through the intersection. Police said the victim was hit once in the hand, once in the hip, and once in the thigh. He was transported to a local hospital and is expected to recover.

Saturday morning: Man shot in foot near apartment building

The second shooting happened just after 9 a.m. on Saturday near Wood Street and Fairview Avenue, according to WCIA. WAND News reported the victim was walking in the 1300 block of W. Wood Street when gunfire erupted.

"A 28-year-old man was walking in the 1300 block of W. Wood St. on Saturday when someone opened fire. The victim was hit in the foot. The apartment building he was walking into was also hit by gunfire," WAND News reported.

WCIA identified the victim as a 29-year-old man who was shot in the foot. Police said he is expected to be okay. No arrests have been made in connection with either shooting.

Recent violence in Decatur

These shootings add to a pattern of gun violence in Decatur over recent months. A Decatur police arrest of Deron Maurice Walker, 46, on multiple drug charges including trafficking and possession of hallucinogens was reported on June 28, according to Decatur IL Daily Brief. Walker was booked into the Morgan County Jail with a bond of $8,800.

Earlier this month, the Decatur Police Department highlighted a cold case from July 2021 in which officers responded to the area of North Edward Street and West Main Street, according to Macon County Crime Stoppers.

"The Decatur Police Department is requesting the public's assistance with a cold case from 2021," Macon County Crime Stoppers reported.

Residents in the Sunset-Oakland and Wood-Fairview areas are being urged to stay alert as detectives work to identify suspects in both cases.
