Two Wounded in Targeted Shooting On Aurora West Side, No One In Custody

Two Men Hospitalized After Gunfire Rocks Aurora West Side
Two people were wounded Friday in a shooting on Aurora's West Side, according to the Aurora Police Department. The incident occurred in the 2000 block of West Downer Place and appears to have been targeted, police said.
At around 9:33 a.m., officers responded to multiple reports of gunfire in the area. Preliminary information indicated that the gunfire had occurred between individuals associated with at least two vehicles in a parking lot. Police said no one is currently in custody.
A man, 25, arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound near the intersection of Downer Place and Edgelawn Drive. Paramedics rendered aid before taking him to the hospital. He sustained non-life-threatening injuries and later left on his own.
Shortly after, a second man with a gunshot wound arrived at another local hospital for treatment and was also released.
As a result of the incident, several nearby schools and childcare facilities were temporarily placed on hold-in-place status. That status was later ended, according to police.
Detectives from the department's Investigations Bureau responded to the scene and are investigating the incident. Evidence technicians processed the scene and collected forensic evidence, including several vehicles struck by gunfire.
Aurora Police Department K9 teams, drone operators and outside assisting agencies conducted searches for involved subjects and evidence in the area.
No one is currently in custody, the department said on Friday afternoon. Based on preliminary information, the incident is believed to have been targeted, with no indication of an ongoing threat to the community.
