A van crashed into OSF Heart of Mary Medical Center in Urbana Tuesday afternoon, forcing the evacuation of the building and damaging a gas meter, a window, and the building's brick facade.

The crash happened at around 1:30 p.m. According to Nick Hanson, City of Urbana building official, the van first struck a gas meter before hitting the hospital building. The gas meter was taken out and repaired.

Occupants on the third floor said they felt the building shake, and the building was evacuated.

Hanson said the woman driving the van refused medical treatment. Nobody was hurt in the crash. The van was deemed undriveable.

Hanson confirmed the building is structurally sound. The damage was limited to the gas meter, the brick facade, and a window. The bricks are part of the exterior cladding. The building's structural support comes from metal beams, which were not affected during the incident.

The Urbana Police Department responded to the scene. The department told WCIA that information remains limited because the crash ticket is still being filed.

WCIA also reached out to the Urbana Fire Department and OSF for additional information but did not receive an immediate response.

No further details were available on the driver or the cause of the crash at this time.
