Man and Woman Charged After Allegedly Assaulting, Spitting on Police in Palatine
Two Palatine residents face felony charges after allegedly punching, kicking, and spitting on officers who responded to a disturbance on East Osage Lane last weekend.
PALATINE, Ill. — A man and a woman face multiple felony charges after police say they assaulted officers responding to a disturbance on East Osage Lane last Sunday.
Palatine Police officers responded to the 400 block of East Osage Lane about 3:10 p.m. on Sunday, September 27, in response to a report of a disturbance, according to the Palatine Police Department.
During the investigation, officers attempted to detain Jovani Perez-Antonio, 35, of Palatine. Police said he became physically combative as they tried to take him into custody. According to the department, Perez-Antonio punched officers, kicked a Palatine Police sergeant in the face, and spit in an officer's face.
As officers worked to take Perez-Antonio into custody, Martha Arce Martinez, 29, of Palatine, allegedly threw a beer can at an officer, striking him in the back. Police said she also resisted officers' efforts to detain her, kicked officers, and spit in an officer's face.
The department said officers and both defendants sustained minor injuries during the incident.

Following an investigation, prosecutors approved the following charges:

- Four counts of Aggravated Battery to a Peace Officer (Class 2 Felony)
- Three counts of Aggravated Assault of a Peace Officer (Class 4 Felony)
- One count of Resisting Arrest (Class A Misdemeanor)
- One count of Violation of an Order of Protection (Class A Misdemeanor)
Martha Arce Martinez, 29, of Palatine
- Four counts of Aggravated Battery to a Peace Officer (Class 2 Felony)
- One count of Aggravated Assault of a Peace Officer (Class 4 Felony)
- One count of Resisting Arrest (Class A Misdemeanor)
Court dates
Perez-Antonio appeared for a detention hearing at the Cook County Third District Municipal Courthouse in Rolling Meadows on Tuesday, September 29, and was released on this case. His next court appearance is scheduled for October 21 at 10:30 a.m.
Arce Martinez was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in court on October 2 at 9:00 a.m. at the Cook County Third District Municipal Courthouse in Rolling Meadows.
The Palatine Police Department did not release further details on the original disturbance that prompted the officers' response.
